NY town fights legal battle to block migrant kids from moving into childcare center

< 1 min read

Mount Pleasant, a town in Westchester County, is embroiled in a legal battle with the Jewish Child Care Association over the potential housing of migrant children at the Pleasantville Cottage School, a residential treatment center. The town’s supervisor, Carl Fulgenzi, issued emergency orders to prevent migrants from being housed there, prompting JCCA to sue, claiming violations of constitutional rights and its mission to shelter children in need. JCCA has a deal with the US Office of Refugee Resettlement to house the children. Mount Pleasant countersued, seeking an injunction to keep migrant children out of the facility, which has a history of controversy with the town. Officials have sought to shut down the Cottage School even before the migrant issue arose.
