February 14 2024- Screen time can provide a temporary reprieve for parents, allowing them to attend to chores or personal tasks. However, while moderate screen time might be harmless or even beneficial, excessive use poses risks. Screens can divert children from physical activity and imaginative play and potentially hinder the development of crucial skills like emotional self-regulation.
A recent study highlights an additional concern for parents: the link between screen time for babies and toddlers and the development of atypical sensory-processing behaviors. The research indicates that children who spend more time watching TV or videos before the age of 2 are more likely to exhibit these atypical behaviors before turning 3. Moreover, the likelihood of such behaviors increases with greater daily screen time. This underscores the importance of mindful screen use for young children to promote healthy development.
