Child safety features promoted by some of the world’s most popular social media platforms may not protect young users as effectively as claimed, according to a new study. Researchers found that several parental controls and safety tools on Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube were missing, difficult to access, easy for children to bypass, or failed to function as advertised, raising fresh concerns about children’s online safety and digital wellbeing.
