UK Adolescents Get Two-Thirds of Daily Calories From UPFs, Says Survey

< 1 min read

A study analyzing food diaries of nearly 3,000 adolescents in the UK from 2008 to 2019 reveals that almost two-thirds of their daily calories come from ultra-processed foods (UPFs). Despite a slight decline from 68% to 63% over the study period, UPF consumption remains notably high, especially among those from deprived backgrounds. UPFs, laden with sugars, fats, and additives, are linked to health risks like obesity and diabetes. The study underscores the need for comprehensive policies promoting healthier diets through education, marketing regulations, and better access to nutritious foods.
