School Proprietor and Teacher Remanded for Torturing 14-Year-Old Student in Adamawa

The proprietor of Aliyu Mustapha College, Yola, Mrs. Amada Pam, and a school teacher, Mr. Morgan Effiong, have been remanded in Jimeta prison for allegedly torturing a 14-year-old SS1 student, Jafa Bashiru.
During their court appearance, both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Their lawyer, Chris Ezenwelu, argued that the offenses were bailable and requested their release. However, the police prosecutor, Inspector Rakat Kardam, opposed the request, stating that the accused might interfere with the ongoing investigation.
A dramatic twist unfolded in court when, instead of ruling on the bail application as scheduled, Judge Shehu Mustapha invited the school proprietor into his office for a closed-door meeting lasting over three hours. The unexpected delay left family members and friends of the complainant anxious. Eventually, the judge ordered that both defendants be remanded in prison and postponed the bail ruling to Friday.
Speaking to the press, Jafa’s father, Bashiru Hamman, recounted how he had gone to the school to submit his son’s fee teller when he found Jafa bleeding and forced to kneel in the hot sun. When he confronted the proprietor about the incident, she insulted him and dismissed his concerns.
