Second Lady Usha Vance Pregnant With Fourth Child, Announces Baby Boy Due This Summer

Second Lady Usha Vance has announced she is expecting her fourth child, sharing the news in a social media post that quickly drew national attention. The wife of Vice President JD Vance revealed that the couple is looking forward to welcoming a baby boy in late July.

Usha Vance, 40, confirmed her pregnancy in a post on X, saying she and the baby are both doing well. The announcement makes her the first second lady in US history to give birth while her husband serves in office.

Usha and Vice President JD Vance are already parents to three young children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. The couple has frequently spoken about the importance of family, a theme that has also featured prominently in the vice president’s public policy positions.

Born Usha Chilukuri, the second lady was raised in the working-class suburbs of San Diego, California. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India, and built careers in science and engineering. Her father worked as a mechanical engineer, while her mother is a molecular biologist.

Usha Vance met JD Vance in 2010 while both were students at Yale Law School. The two connected through an academic discussion group focused on social and economic challenges in America. They later married and built their family alongside demanding professional careers.

Before becoming second lady, Usha Vance established herself as a respected attorney. She worked as a corporate litigator at the San Francisco law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson and clerked for several high-profile conservative judges. Her legal experience includes time working for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Judge Brett Kavanaugh, prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court.

While Usha Vance is the first second lady to have a baby during her tenure, history offers rare precedents among first ladies. Frances Cleveland, the wife of President Grover Cleveland, famously gave birth to her daughter Esther in the White House in 1893.

The pregnancy announcement also comes as Vice President JD Vance continues to advocate for higher birth rates in the United States. In a 2025 speech, he made his position clear, saying he wants more babies born in America.

With a baby boy expected later this summer, the Vance family is preparing for a new chapter that blends public service with an expanding household, placing the second lady firmly in the national spotlight once again.
