Spotlight of the Week: Dr. Olufemi Ogunsanya – A Pioneer in Education and Leadership
Dr. Olufemi Ogunsanya is a renowned Nigerian educator, entrepreneur, and leader who has dedicated her life to transforming the educational landscape in Nigeria. As the founder of Oxbridge Tutorial College, Nigeria’s first specialist Sixth Form College, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the academic journey of countless students.
Dr. Ogunsanya holds a Second Class Upper Honours degree in Botany from the University of Lagos and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Bristol, UK. Her career began as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Lagos, where she spent 10 years before voluntarily retiring as a Senior Lecturer.
She then moved to the UK, where she worked as a Research Fellow at University College London for three years. Her passion for microbiology and quality assurance led her to establish a Quality Assurance company that serviced the food industry in London and Kings Lynn. However, her love for education and desire to contribute to Nigeria’s academic sector brought her back home in 1992.
On August 1, 1993, Dr. Ogunsanya founded Oxbridge Tutorial College in Lagos, pioneering Sixth Form education in Nigeria. The institution remains the premier Sixth Form College in the country, providing students with an exceptional academic foundation for higher education abroad and locally.
Her vision and leadership have positioned Oxbridge Tutorial College as a beacon of excellence, helping students gain admission into top universities worldwide.
Dr. Ogunsanya is a respected leader in the Nigerian education sector. She currently serves as:
- Chairman, Board of Governors, Association of Private Educators in Nigeria (APEN)
- Chairman, Lagos Anglican Schools Management Board (LASMAB)
- Chairman, Igbobi College, Yaba
- Board Member, Preparation for Life (PFL), an educational consultancy outfit
- Trustee, Elizade University, Ilaramokin, Ondo State
- Board Member, The Aart of Life Foundation
- Former Board Member, Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu

Despite her numerous professional achievements, Dr. Ogunsanya remains deeply rooted in her faith and family. She is a devout Anglican, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother, balancing her personal and professional life with grace.
