Tamron Hall Embraces the ‘Conservative Parenting’ Label in Raising Her Son

Tamron Hall grew up in a strict household in Luling, Texas, where respect was non-negotiable. “You couldn’t question anything,” she recalls. Now, as a mother to her 5-year-old son, Moses, she takes a different approach, giving him more autonomy while reinforcing clear boundaries. “I want him to have agency to speak up, but I also want him to understand respect.” That’s why she uses time-outs when needed, even in public. “People see that as conservative parenting these days, but I’m OK with that. It works for me and my child.”

Hall has also learned to embrace life’s second chances, letting go of impossible expectations. Before motherhood, she felt pressure to meet certain standards. Now, she sees things differently: “Many times, life gives you a second or third chance. My biggest responsibility is this child I’m helping to form.” Her new children’s book, Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid, was inspired by Moses’ cautious yet curious nature and encourages children to face their fears while exploring the world around them.

Beyond parenting, Hall prioritizes self-care and mindfulness. Cooking has also become a therapeutic ritual, she makes dinner four to five times a week and embraces the imperfections of family mealtime. “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good,” she says, a mantra that guides both her professional and personal life.
