Child protection is the duty of everyone in society, and these boys proved exactly that. In moments of crisis, it’s not always adults or authorities who step up first. Sometimes, it’s young people with brave hearts and quick instincts who make all the difference.

Two teenagers from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, became heroes after their quick thinking and brave actions led to the rescue of a five-year-old girl who had been kidnapped.

On July 11, 2013, 15-year-old Temar Boggs was spending a typical summer day helping a neighbor move a couch before biking around the neighborhood with his friend Chris Garcia. But that ordinary day took an extraordinary turn when the pair heard that a young girl named Jocelyn Rojas had gone missing nearby.

Without hesitation, Temar and Chris mobilized their friends into an impromptu search party. Jocelyn had been abducted by a man who lured her into his vehicle with the promise of ice cream. Time was critical, and the boys knew it.

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes into their search, Temar noticed a car behaving suspiciously, turning repeatedly into side streets. Trusting his instincts, he and Chris decided to follow it. After trailing the car for 10 to 15 minutes, they spotted Jocelyn in the passenger seat.

The driver, likely realizing he was being pursued, eventually stopped and let the girl out. Jocelyn ran to the teens, crying for her mother. Temar comforted her and safely carried her halfway home before handing her over to a firefighter who reunited her with her family.

Temar later shared that their actions came from the heart: “It wasn’t to get attention or anything. It was just to help somebody in the community, help make sure another little life was okay, and make sure her future could be possible.”

In a world often filled with troubling headlines, this act of courage and community spirit stands out as a powerful reminder: heroes come in all ages.
