Texas Sues Roblox Over Safety Failures That Expose Children to Predators

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the gaming platform of ignoring child-safety laws and misleading parents about risks to young users. Paxton labeled Roblox a “breeding ground for predators,” claiming it prioritizes financial gain over child protection.
Roblox disputes the claims, saying the lawsuit is based on misrepresentations and stating that it has taken steps to safeguard children, including enhanced age-verification, parental permission requirements for messaging, and measures to remove harmful actors.
Concerns have grown as users and parents report exposure to abusive behavior, disturbing content, and sexualized material, despite Roblox’s educational and creative opportunities. Several U.S. states, including Kentucky and Louisiana, have already taken similar legal action.
The platform is banned in some countries due to exploitation concerns and faced scrutiny in Singapore after a teen accessed extremist content through Roblox servers.
This case underscores the critical need to uphold children’s right to safety and protection from exploitation, which requires safeguarding children from all forms of abuse, including digital harm.
Platforms serving young users must prioritize robust safety measures, transparent communication with families, and vigilant monitoring to ensure that every child can explore, learn, and play online without fear of exploitation or harm.
