WAEC Debunks False Report on Cancellation of English Language Paper

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially debunked widespread rumours claiming that the 2025 English Language paper, taken on May 28, has been cancelled.
Reacting to the fake reports, the Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, confirmed that the statement circulating online, allegedly announcing the cancellation of the exam, is false and did not originate from the council.
The fabricated release, dated Friday, May 30, and supposedly signed by Dr. Dangut, claimed the English Language paper was cancelled due to exam misconduct, unauthorised use of materials, and recording of exam content in the halls, which it alleged compromised the integrity of WAEC certificates.
WAEC’s Public Affairs Officer, Moyosola Adesina, further addressed the matter, stating that the council became aware of the fake news through social media channels. She emphasized that the English Language exam has not been cancelled, and no new date has been set for a retake.
While the origin of the false statement remains unclear, Adesina warned that it was likely the work of mischief-makers intent on discrediting the council and creating confusion among candidates.
She reminded the public and all stakeholders that any official communication from WAEC is made only through its verified social media platforms and recognized media outlets.
WAEC also took the opportunity to thank the public for the trust placed in the organization over its 73 years of operation, and reassured Nigerians of its ongoing commitment to upholding examination integrity and delivering quality services to students across the country.
