15-Year-Old Viral Teen Detained in Prison

The 15-year-old who went viral during Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign rally in Lagos, has reportedly been detained in Kirikiri prison. He became a symbol of hope and courage after an image of him standing in front of Peter Obi’s convoy during the campaign circulated widely online.
According to a post by an X user known as Brownie, the boy was on his way home from work when he was stopped by a group of area boys. They allegedly confiscated his phone and handed him over to security operatives. Brownie, who claims to have spoken with the boy’s mother, said the incident stemmed from the area boys’ resentment over the gifts and attention Yusuf received during the general elections, which they felt entitled to.
Despite the unclear circumstances surrounding his arrest, he has been charged with theft and assault. His court hearing has been adjourned to April 28, 2025. Brownie insists the teenager is innocent and is calling for public support.
The news has stirred a strong reaction online, with many calling for justice and urging human rights advocates to intervene. As the story gains traction, Nigerians demand accountability and fairness in his case.
