30 Days in Captivity: CCAN, IGP Disu Express Confidence in Safe Return of Abducted Oyo, Borno Schoolchildren, Teachers

The abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo and Borno States have spent 30 days in captivity, as hopes remain high for their safe return.

The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has expressed confidence that the affected persons will be rescued unharmed. The association also backed the assurance given by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on the ongoing rescue efforts.

CCAN said the police chief’s assurance shows the confidence and commitment of security agencies to bring the children back home.

The association, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Festus Fifen, and Secretary, Peter Ireh, said the development has renewed hope among families waiting for their loved ones.

Earlier, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed that intelligence reports suggested the abducted pupils and teachers were being held within the Old Oyo National Park.

He explained that security agencies were working to locate and rescue them. However, the difficult terrain and size of the park have slowed down the operation.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the government remains focused on securing the safe release of the children.

CCAN pointed to recent security operations as evidence of improved intelligence gathering and coordinated action. The group also highlighted the rescue of other kidnap persons as a sign of the police force’s capacity.

The association specifically mentioned the rescue of Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan on June 3, 2026.

As the children mark their 30th day away from home, families and Nigerians continue to wait for positive news.

Calls for stronger protection of schools have also increased, with many demanding faster action against threats targeting children.

Security agencies now face growing pressure to complete the rescue mission and reunite the pupils and teachers with their families.
