Parents Sue a Pennsylvania School after a Teacher Allegedly Cut 20 Inches Off their Daughter’s Hair

< 1 min read

The parents of an 8-year-old girl in Harrisburg have sued St. Margaret Mary School after a teacher allegedly cut 20 inches off their daughter’s hair without permission. The incident occurred in November 2023 during music class, when a teacher removed a piece of Velcro from the girl’s hair. The lawsuit emphasises that the girl’s long hair is significant to her family’s religious beliefs and cultural identity. The parents claim they were not notified before the cut and received no immediate response from the school. The girl has since been diagnosed with PTSD and is receiving professional help. The school admitted the teacher did not follow protocol, but the Diocese of Harrisburg declined to comment due to the ongoing litigation.
