Officials report discovery of switchblade in elementary school student’s backpack in Stoneham.

A student at a Stoneham elementary school is facing disciplinary measures for bringing a switchblade to school. School officials were alerted just before dismissal on Friday that the student may have had a knife and had shown it to others. Following a search, the switchblade was found in the student’s backpack. The incident was reported to the child’s family and the Stoneham Police Department in accordance with school policy. While there were no indications of intent to harm anyone or threats against the school community, the school district emphasizes the seriousness of such incidents. The student will face the consequences outlined in the Stoneham Public Schools Elementary Handbook.
