Regina Snead, owner and director of the Baby Einstein Child Development Center in Southeast D.C., was honored for evacuating 16 children before a gas explosion in January. Smelling gas, she promptly led the evacuation, and 30 minutes later, an explosion destroyed a nearby convenience store and damaged the daycare. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser praised Snead’s professionalism, and D.C. Fire Chief John Donnelly commended her quick actions. During a celebratory event, Snead credited her staff for their role in the safe evacuation. The event also featured a jazz trio and a silent auction to raise funds for a new daycare center.
