Next year, parents in Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) can’t assume their child’s usual school bus will arrive at the stop, as families must now opt in for transportation services. This shift accompanies the district’s transition to four enrollment zones, aiming to offer more school choices with specialized academic programs. Families can opt-in for transportation during school registration, and some Innovation Network schools also require this. Certain students deemed “walkers” won’t be eligible for transportation, but those within the same school zone will qualify. High schoolers might qualify for transportation through IndyGo, with eligibility details pending. Exceptions for transportation outside school zones are available for the 2024–25 school year to minimize student transitions, but they won’t continue beyond that period.
