US sues Hyundai, others over child labor at Alabama parts plant

< 1 min read

The U.S. Department of Labor has sued Hyundai Motor Co and two other companies over illegal use of child labor in Alabama, alleging a 13-year-old child worked up to 60 hours per week on an assembly line forming sheet metal for auto body parts. These companies were accused of employing underage workers and trying to shift blame to suppliers. Reuters investigations revealed migrant children employed in Alabama factories supplying parts to Hyundai and Kia. Hyundai responded by stating it no longer owned the subsidiary involved and had taken remedial actions following the allegations. The issue highlighted concerns about child labor violations and prompted further investigations by state and federal authorities.
