Oletha Cuevas, a 48-year-old assistant principal at Walter G. Byers School in Charlotte, was arrested and charged with child abuse and communicating threats by the Huntersville Police Department. According to arrest warrants, she allegedly threatened to kill her child and caused visible injuries to the child. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed her role and stated that the incident is not related to school business. Cuevas was given a $1,500 bond and released from jail. School leadership roles will be adjusted to ensure continuity in teaching and administration.
