She encourages parents to ensure their daughters aged nine to 14 receive the vaccine. UNICEF’s health specialist Dr. Ijeoma Agbo highlights HPV’s link to cervical cancer and the global and Nigerian statistics on related cases and deaths. The introduction of the HPV vaccine in Nigeria’s routine immunization system aims to reduce cervical cancer incidence significantly among women and girls, targeting over seven million girls in the first phase.
