Reps task FG on Nigeria’s out-of-school children, price control board

The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to ensure Nigeria’s out-of-school girls are enrolled by implementing free and compulsory education for girls nationwide. This call followed a motion by Rep. Kafilat Ogbara (APC-Lagos) during the commemoration of the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child. According to a recent UNICEF survey, 18.5 million children are out of school in Nigeria, with girls constituting 60% of this number. Ogbara emphasized that adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, and that investing in girls’ leadership involves creating opportunities for them to participate in policy making at all levels.
