A report in the British Journal of Educational Studies indicates that attending academically selective schools, such as grammar schools, does not provide significant advantages in early adult life compared to attending comprehensive schools. The study, which followed 3,000 pupils in Australia over 11 years starting from age 15, found that although selective schools enrolled higher-achieving students based on entrance exams, these schools did not notably increase the likelihood of attending university or securing employment. This challenges the perceived benefits of selective education, suggesting that it may not significantly impact long-term educational and career outcomes.
