Students at the Lower Kuskokwim School District Science Fair in Bethel presented a variety of experiments on February 23. Gretchen from Gladys Jung Elementary compared bacteria levels between a dog and a human’s mouth, finding the dog’s mouth to be dirtier. Anakin from Tutuntuliak discovered that soap and water are more effective than hand sanitizer in killing germs. Cedric and Mason, also from Gladys Jung, tested windmill sturdiness and found printer paper to be the strongest material. Nora and Kendall from Ayaprun Elitnaurvik experimented with using monkfruit instead of sugar to make healthier cupcakes.
