A couple in Lagos, Nigeria, was arrested by the police for attempting to sell their two-year-old son so that the father could travel to Canada for better opportunities. The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. The couple, aged 28 and 22, were apprehended at Isolo General Hospital where they had expressed their intention to sell the child. The police acted on a tip-off and rescued the child. The couple admitted to planning the sale to fund the father’s immigration, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
