Professor Ayoola Akinwole, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Ibadan, highlighted insufficient funding as the primary cause of poor infrastructure in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Speaking during his inaugural lecture, Akinwole emphasized that ASUU will persist in advocating for educational reform. He criticized the Nigerian government for inadequate resource allocation, interference in university governance, and mismanagement of funds, which contribute to substandard facilities, outdated curricula, and other systemic issues. He also pointed out that rising tuition fees and poor living conditions exacerbate these problems, and called for the government to address conflicts among students, workers, and the broader education sector to improve conditions.
