The National Universities Commission (NUC) has endorsed Open Distance Learning (ODL) as a cost-effective and adaptable educational method. At a public lecture hosted by Miva Open University, NUC’s Acting Executive Secretary Chris Maiyaki highlighted ODL’s potential to overcome traditional classroom limitations, making education more accessible across various levels and contexts. Maiyaki emphasized that ODL can help bridge the gap between the high demand for university places in Nigeria and the limited capacity of existing institutions, which only accommodate a fraction of the applicants. The approach aims to expand access to higher education and address Nigeria’s educational challenges.
