The Deptford Township School District has abandoned its plan to end courtesy busing after receiving significant backlash from local officials and the community. Mayor Paul Medany, Police Chief Joe Smith, and Public Safety Director Sean Dalton criticized the cost-cutting plan, arguing it endangered student safety. In response, Superintendent Kevin Kanauss announced that busing would continue as before, though some bus stops might be adjusted. The original plan would have required families within courtesy busing distances to pay $365 per student annually and risk losing their bus spot if their child missed the bus three times.
