Boost to A-Level Maths Reflects Student Desire for Digital Literacy, Experts say

< 1 min read

England’s A-level mathematics and further mathematics have seen record enrollment and top grades this year, signaling a shift away from the perception of being “bad at maths.” Over 100,000 students took A-level maths, making it the first subject to surpass this threshold, and further maths is now the fastest-growing A-level. The percentage of top grades has also increased, with 41.5% of students achieving A* or A grades. Dr. Jennie Golding from University College London and Professor Marcus du Sautoy from Oxford University attribute this positive trend to increased investment in maths education and a growing recognition of the importance of digital and mathematical literacy. This progress follows concerted efforts to enhance attitudes and results in maths education post-pandemic.
