Sixth-form students in England have achieved record A-level results, surpassing pre-pandemic highs for A* and A grades. This year saw over 100,000 candidates for A-level maths, with 42% earning A* or A grades. Physics and chemistry also saw high performance, with a third of entrants achieving top grades. The number of students receiving three or more A*s reached a record 4,135, up nearly 50% from 2019. Ofqual, the exam regulator, noted that the increase in top grades reflects the ability of the students rather than grade inflation, as standards were maintained from the previous year.
