Due to the ongoing economic crisis, payments by Nigerian students for the upcoming academic session in UK universities have decreased by 65% compared to last year, according to the Financial Times. Indian student payments have also dropped by 44%. Overall, there has been a 35% decline in deposits from international students this month compared to August 2023. This significant drop is expected to impact UK universities financially, which have become increasingly reliant on higher-paying international students. Analysts, including Paul Kett from PwC UK, anticipate that institutions may face financial challenges and need to take further actions to maintain financial stability.
