Fifty secondary schools in England suspended more than a quarter of their students in the 2022-23 school year, a sharp increase from previous years. Schools with the highest rates of suspensions are predominantly located in disadvantaged areas, where students are three times more likely to be suspended compared to those in wealthier areas. The number of such schools doubled from 24 in 2018-19 to 50 in 2022-23. Among them, five are managed by Dixons Academies Trust, with three other trusts—Outwood Grange Academies Trust and Northern Education Trust—also having multiple schools on the list. Notably, Dixons Croxteth Academy, Outwood Academy Kirkby, and Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth suspended over 37% of their student.
