Is 17 Too Young for University?

Last September, I began university at 17, a year younger than most of my peers due to the Scottish education system. Despite feeling both excited and anxious, I faced unique challenges, including being unable to participate in typical student activities like drinking and clubbing due to my age. This situation was compounded by worries about being perceived as different and struggling with the workload. My experience was shared by other younger students, such as Gaëlle, who also faced difficulties adjusting in a foreign country, and Georgia, who lost her fake ID. While starting university young can be daunting and presents its own set of challenges, including managing basic life skills, I persevered and survived my first year, earning the nickname “Baby Fresher.”
