NKU Students Left Wondering What’s Next After University Dissolves Office of Inclusive Excellence

< 1 min read

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) has dissolved its Office of Inclusive Excellence and its chief diversity officer, Dr. Darryl Peal, has stepped down. University President Dr. Cady Short-Thompson cited shifting legislative priorities and similar actions at other universities, like the University of Kentucky, as reasons for the change. Local lawmakers, including Republican state Sen. John Schickel, who has criticized DEI offices, supported the decision. Schickel argued that the office was divisive and that its removal would help foster a more unified educational environment. NKU sent a follow-up email to students to clarify the implications of this decision.
