This post explores what anthropological educators committed to abolition can learn from Telpochcalli, a community-based liberatory curriculum developed by MILPA, a Chicano-Indigenous collective in California. Telpochcalli, meaning ‘House of Youth’ in Nahuatl, provides a grassroots, abolitionist educational approach that offers a safe space for transformative learning and relationship-building. Targeted primarily at youth affected by carceral systems, the curriculum combines Chicano-Indigenous teachings with a focus on cultural appreciation, critical consciousness, and community engagement.
