Palm Beach County school leaders voted to fire bus driver Gerald Marston after he left a 15-year-old Suncoast High School student, Tony Mancuso, alone at Lake Lytal Park, four miles from home, after the student missed his stop. Marston, 69, claimed he confirmed the student’s father was coming to pick him up and thought it was acceptable to leave him there. The incident, which occurred on March 11, sparked outrage among Mancuso’s parents, who demanded accountability, noting that they would face serious consequences if the roles were reversed. While Marston is not facing criminal charges, the school board unanimously approved his termination on September 18, effective October 11 if he does not appeal.
