The words of a high school volleyball coach, “Never become complacent,” have significantly influenced my life and teaching career. This mantra motivated me to pursue National Board Certification, a journey marked by introspection and self-discovery. Early recordings of my teaching revealed weaknesses, such as dominating discussions, while also highlighting my strengths. A pivotal moment occurred when I recognized the need to empower my students’ voices. Achieving certification in 2013 was exhilarating, symbolizing my dedication and validating my efforts. The true reward, however, was the confidence gained in my ability to lead effectively. A decade later, during the renewal process, I noticed significant growth in my teaching style—I learned to facilitate rather than dictate, allowing student inquiry to flourish.
