Hyde Park residents Randall Mcauley and Celia Paris have attended the South Side Science Festival every year since moving to the area, bringing their three children along. The event, held at the University of Chicago, offers interactive demonstrations and panels with scientists, aiming to inspire youth in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Mcauley noted that each year, their children—particularly Ilsa, who is interested in programming and robotics—are captivated by new experiences, even if they stray from their original focus, such as when Ilsa was intrigued by dinosaurs. Mcauley, a pediatrician, views the festival as an important learning opportunity for his kids, especially regarding the relevance of technology and AI.
