Parents and students protested at a Skokie school over the sudden decision to move seventh and eighth graders to another school by the end of the trimester. The Evanston/Skokie District 65 Board had previously voted to close Bessie Rhodes and open a new school next year, but the abrupt announcement last week affects 42 students starting November 18th. Demonstrators urged the board to reconsider and find a better solution. The district acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but stated it was made in the best interest of the students. The next board meeting is scheduled for October 28.
