Parents often feel heartache when their child comes home reporting loneliness at school. A recent poll by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital revealed that one in five parents say their child lacks friends, while 90% of children wish to make new friends. To help, many parents arrange playdates, enroll their kids in activities, or allow social media use for connections. However, two-thirds of parents believe it’s important for their child to befriend peers from similar backgrounds, which can complicate social interactions. Additionally, 21% of parents noted their child is shy or socially awkward, while other barriers include limited time, existing friend groups, and issues related to disabilities or medical challenges.
