Accounting Error Could Cost New Orleans Schools $36 Million, Officials now say

New Orleans schools are facing a $36 million funding gap due to a district accounting error, nearly double the amount originally estimated. The Orleans Parish School Board has proposed a plan to cover about $20 million of the shortfall, but the remaining $16 million is still unaccounted for. This discrepancy arose from inflated revenue estimates the district provided earlier in the year, which schools relied on to set their budgets.
