< 1 min read

Jefferson County and Bessemer City Schools celebrated recent improvements in their school performances. Bessemer City Schools highlighted Abrams Elementary, which improved by seven points, scoring an 81 on its report card after previously earning an F rating just four years ago. Principal Mildred Posey attributed the success to focused teaching on standards and diligent learning. Jefferson County Schools saw a slight improvement, with an overall district score of 82. However, more than half of the district’s schools received C or D ratings, with only 11% earning an A. Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin expressed a strong commitment to continuing efforts to improve the district’s scores.
