NYC Comptroller cuts off Department of Education Contract Authorization

< 1 min read

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander is moving to block the Education Department (DOE) from approving contracts with minority and women-owned businesses without his office’s review. This decision comes amid a federal investigation into potential misuse of these contracts. Lander’s office will now oversee contracts under $1.5 million, as the current delegation of authority expires at the end of the year. Lander cited concerns over corruption, fraud, and waste, referencing a federal subpoena and an ongoing investigation into DOE contracting practices, including potential nepotism and conflicts of interest.
