FCPS bus driver gives insight on school cancellations

< 1 min read

When many of us see school buses, we think they should be able to trek through even the toughest of conditions, but some FCPS bus drivers said that’s not always the case, especially when it comes to the ice that’s still on several Lexington roads.

Fayette County Public Schools bus driver Joseph Haskins said school buses don’t have the proper traction to deal with thick layers of ice.

If you add that on top of tight turns, it can become dangerous.

“Like our special needs buses, they’ll actually go down in courts, that you have to go down in and turn around in and come back out, whereas our bigger buses, they don’t go down in those areas, and it is impossible to get those buses in and out,” Haskins said.
