Castaic Union School District announces all schools will be closed Thursday

The Castaic Union School District has announced the closure of all its campuses on Thursday due to the rapidly spreading Hughes Fire in the area. The district, which manages three elementary schools, two middle schools, and a preschool, made the decision to prioritize student safety.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Unified School District has moved all outdoor activities indoors to protect students from the hazardous air quality caused by the fire.

The Hughes Fire, burning north of Los Angeles, has quickly expanded to over 9,000 acres with no containment as of now. Evacuation orders are in place for approximately 31,000 residents, with an additional 21,000 under evacuation warnings.

A red flag warning for heightened fire danger has been extended through Friday at 10 a.m.
