The National Examinations Council (NECO) has affirmed that the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will continue as scheduled on Tuesday, despite the Federal Government’s declaration of a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This announcement comes amid confusion and concern among students, parents, and school administrators over whether the examinations would be postponed.

NECO’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Azeez Sani, clarified that the exams will proceed nationwide without delay, emphasizing that the papers set for Tuesday, Physics, Financial Accounting, and Basic Electricity, are critical and cannot be rescheduled without disrupting the overall examination timetable.

Backing this, Mr. A.S. Adedoyin, the Lagos State Coordinator of NECO, issued a formal notice to school principals, reaffirming that “our exams will proceed as scheduled without interruption.”

He urged all school heads to ensure that candidates are present and ready for the exams on time.

This decision by NECO reflects a strong commitment to the fundamental right to education. While national mourning is a solemn and necessary gesture, national exams like the SSCE are pivotal milestones that shape the academic future of Nigerian youth and should not be disrupted.
