Ogun Road Crash: Schoolchildren, Others Killed in Fatal Accident
Four persons, including schoolchildren, lost their lives on Wednesday in a tragic road accident that occurred at Sowo Village along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident, which took place around 3:00 p.m., involved a vehicle that reportedly veered off the road and rammed into the pupils as they were walking by the roadside.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, noting that the incident sparked outrage among residents. In the chaos that followed, angry youths attempted to lynch the driver responsible for the crash. However, security operatives quickly intervened and managed to rescue him from the mob.
Confirming the incident in a phone conversation, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said that efforts were launched immediately to manage the tense situation.
This is a clear violation of their right to life. Every child is entitled to safety and protection that ensures their survival and development, as enshrined in both national and international laws.
