Tragedy in Dominican Republic as Parents Kill Four Children

Source

Over the weekend, the Dominican Republic was shaken by a wave of tragic cases in which children lost their lives at the hands of their own parents.

In one incident on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, a 36-year-old mother poisoned the juice of her three children, aged seven, nine, and eleven, before taking her own life.

That same day, police in the capital arrested a man accused of suffocating his one-year-eight-month-old son.

These tragedies followed two other recent cases: a couple accused of brutally abusing and killing a seven-year-old girl in their care, and a father in Nagua who allegedly hanged his two-year-old son before ending his own life.

These acts are not only heartbreaking, they represent grave violations of children’s rights. Every child has the right to life, survival, and development. They must be protected from all forms of violence, abuse, and neglect. And they are entitled to the highest standard of health and safe living conditions.
