Kido Nursery Cyber Attack: Children’s Names, Pictures and Addresses Stolen
Hackers have struck at one of the most vulnerable corners of society: nurseries filled with children.
The Kido nursery chain, which operates 18 centers across London and others abroad, has confirmed a cyberattack in which criminals claim to have stolen the names, addresses, photographs, and even safeguarding notes of approximately 8,000 children.
Parents say they have been directly contacted by the hackers, who are now demanding a ransom while publishing samples of children’s personal data online.
The group behind the breach, calling itself Radiant, has gone as far as releasing profiles of children on the dark web in an effort to extort money.
Cybersecurity experts have called the act “an absolute new low,” with the National Cyber Security Centre condemning the deliberate targeting of nurseries as “deeply distressing.”
For parents, the breach cuts to the core of trust; entrusting their children’s safety to a nursery should never mean exposing them to criminal exploitation.
While the company has been notifying families, and police are investigating, the trauma extends beyond digital boundaries.
For children too young to even understand, their privacy has been stolen before they’ve had the chance to shape their own lives. These are not just records or files; they are children’s identities, placed at risk for profit.
Children have an inherent right to privacy and protection from exploitation. That right demands stronger safeguards so that no child’s innocence can be turned into currency in the hands of criminals.
