Parents and Communities Urged to Step Up Child Safety as FG Declares Friday and Monday as Easter Holidays.

As Nigerians prepare for the Easter holidays following the Federal Government’s declaration of Friday and Monday as public holidays, parents and community members have been urged to prioritize the safety of children during the festive period.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while congratulating Christians on the occasion, encouraged citizens to reflect on values such as love, selflessness, and community. These values, stakeholders say, should translate into collective responsibility in ensuring a safe environment for children during the celebrations.

With increased movement, social gatherings, and travel expected across the country, children are likely to be exposed to crowded spaces and unfamiliar environments. This raises concerns about risks such as getting lost, road safety challenges, and lack of adequate supervision.

Parents have been advised to maintain close supervision of their children, particularly in public places, and to avoid leaving them unattended. They are also encouraged to educate children on basic safety measures, including staying close to guardians and knowing how to seek help when necessary.

In addition, community members are being called upon to remain vigilant and supportive by assisting children who may appear lost or unsupervised. Security awareness and mutual care within neighborhoods and public spaces are seen as key to preventing avoidable incidents.

As celebrations continue, stakeholders emphasize that ensuring children’s safety is a shared responsibility that helps make the Easter period peaceful, secure, and enjoyable for all.
