16-Year-Old JAMB Star Bags ₦1 Million Scholarship After Emerging Nigeria’s Top Scorer

The overall best candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 16-year-old, Daniella Owoeye Jesudunsin, has been awarded a scholarship of N1 million for her outstanding academic performance, underscoring the need to celebrate children’s excellence and invest in their education.

The members of Ekiti Parapo, Indiana, United States, presented the scholarship to Daniella for her outstanding performance in the examination, which resulted in her being the top scorer in the country with 372 out of a possible 400 marks.

Daniella shared the news on Facebook and thanked the organisation, her parents, family and supporters for their encouragement and support. She said it was a wonderful experience and she was grateful to all those who helped her achieve her success.

An indigene of Erinmope-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Daniella scored 98 in English Language, 98 in Chemistry, 94 in Physics and 82 in Biology. Her ambition is to study Medicine and Surgery in the University of Lagos.

The young scholar previously believed that her success was due to her preparation, consistency and smart study techniques such as using past questions, computer-based test applications, online tutorials and study groups.

Her accomplishment is a testament to the importance of fostering children’s right to education and development. Child rights groups state that the recognition of academic excellence helps to inspire more children to strive for their goals and to remind governments, families and communities of the need to provide opportunities for all children to learn, grow and achieve their full potential.
